risør

We have heard much from missionaries about the historic church beginnings in Risør so we decided to make a quick stop on the way back from Arendal. The first baptism in Norway was in this town November 26, 1851. Early members in Norway were often jailed. The church was finally recognized as a Christian religion in 1882 and received legal rights under Norway's Dissenter law. Today Risør is a charming tourist town with a large area for boats to dock as they travel the coast of Norway. The homes near the harbor were surrounded by beautiful small garden yards.
